The New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community, which is a program of Our Place Society is looking for a physician to support two long-term addictions programs located in View Royal. The men’s program is for 40 residents and the women’s program, which will open in late 2024, will have 20 residents.

The two combined program areas require a physician to be on site for two full days each week as well as on-call services as needed, for a combined total of 20-22 hours per week. Compensation is $190.00 per hour. Both programs are long-term for 9 months to 24 months for adult and women over the age of 19 years. The men and women in New Roads programs have acute and chronic substance use issues and they may also have experienced homelessness, mental heatlh issues, or involvement with the criminal justice system. There will also be psychiatric supports that both program areas can access. Each program area has registered therapists who can provide both individual and group supports within each program area.

Duties and functions include:

  • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments with a focus on substance use as well as process addictions
  • Manage opioid agonist therapy (OAT)
  • Assess and create plans to manage acute and chronic physicial and mental health issues and make referrals to specialsits when higher care is required
  • Promote health and wellness through the offer of immunization, early detection screening programs and risk counseling
  • Apply experience in working with women’s health including prenatal/prenatal addictions care and adult women across the lifespan
  • Work closely with the partners at Women’s Health and Perinatal care
  • Liase with specialist colleagues when necessary to optimize care and reduce barriers to treatment
  • Provide support and clinical supervision for the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse for each program area (each program will have a full-time nurse for 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday)
  • Participate in quarterly meetings with the medical team including the manager from the contracted pharmacy
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure communication and planning is understood by all team members
  • Work closely with the site manager to ensure effective communication across the disciplines
  • Work in alignment with New Roads policeis and procedures
  • Provide discharge prescriptions and transitional planning for residents leaving the program
  • If possible, provide text/phone call support for non-clinic days for emergent concerns only
