Traditional Pit Cook

Recently the SIDFP had the opportunity to partner with the Victoria Division to host a Cultural Knowledge Sharing event — a Traditional Pit Cook on Saturday August 23rd.

The day was guided by J.B. Williams, a Knowledge Holder, ethnobotanist and gifted storyteller from the SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) and Ahousaht First Nations.

We had the opportunity to gather at Cordova Spit Beach on Tsawout First Nations — a place of beauty and peace! The invitation noted we would be sharing a hands-on, land-based learning experience rooted in the traditional foodways of the Coastal First Peoples. Everyone who attended was part of the experience and the message of working together was demonstrated. A great day to connect, learn and breath in the natural world.

Watch this space for news of upcoming events and chances to participate in ongoing Indigenous Cultural Safety education. For questions or information, please contact Michele Nault Mortimer at: michele.nm@sidfp.com | 778-678-6415
