First Nations Population Health and Wellness Agenda: First Interim Update, 2024

Jun 4, 2025

The First Nations Population Health and Wellness Agenda: First Interim Update, 2024 (PHWA) is part of a series of reports created in partnership between the First Nations Health Authority Office of the Chief Medical Officer and the BC Office of the Provincial Health Officer to monitor and report on the health and wellness of First Nations people in BC over a decade using 22 health and wellness indicators. This is the first interim update in the PHWA report series, which will include additional interim update reports, followed by a final report scheduled for 2030.

The report represents “the beginning of a significant shift in the way the health and wellness of First Nations people is reported on” and is a shift away from “population health reporting that is colonial and deficit-based toward a focus on the strengths and connections that truly support and nurture health and wellness for First Nations people and communities” (PHWA) 2024.

Our Indigenous Cultural Safety team will be looking for opportunities to connect members to learning and deepening opportunities in Indigenous Cultural Safety and sharing in our newsletter. We look forward to being on the journey together.
