Salt Spring Island is excited to welcome two new family physicians and their families to the Salt Spring Island community this month. Their decision to live and practice on the island is a significant step forward in strengthening local access to primary care and supporting the long-term sustainability of healthcare services on the islands.
The addition of these physicians means that approximately 1,100 more community members will gain attachment to a family physician, improving access to ongoing, comprehensive primary care. Equally important, through thoughtful succession planning, an estimated 500 patients who would otherwise have been left unattached due to a physician’s retirement will continue to receive care without disruption.
This growth reflects the ongoing collaboration between the SSI Primary Care Network, Island Health, local physicians, and community partners to recruit and retain healthcare providers. We are thrilled to welcome these new physicians and their families and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our communities for years to come.
