SIDFP was part of the organizing committee for this year’s “Our Women are Sacred” walk on May 5th. The local walk, hosted on the traditional territory of Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, was an opportunity to bring community together in ceremony.
The walk’s organizers say this about the event: “The hope is to raise awareness and messaging as our ancestors did, speaking truth through courage and compassion. It is through our cultural values and virtues we bring a stop to the violence and murder of Indigenous Women, Girls and our Gender Diverse Relatives — where men resume roles and responsibilities as nurturing protectors.”
The photo shows the long line of supporters for this year’s walk and our new Indigenous Program Lead, Alexis Moore, taking part in the walk.
