Strong & Steady: Falls Prevention Program for Seniors

Strong & Steady is a student-led program designed to help lower seniors’ risk of falling, support their independence, and encourage participation in community activities. The program is led by Physiotherapy students under the supervision of a Registered Physiotherapist, a Physiotherapy Educator and an Occupational Therapy Coordinator,

Eligibility

This program is for individuals who are 65 years and older who:

  • Agree to work with physiotherapy students on fall prevention strategies
  • Live in the community (including independent living or assisted living)
  • Are able to attend a clinic 3 times per week for 45 – 90 minutes at a time
  • Have transportation to/from the clinic
  • Are able to follow directions, participate in and benefit from group education sessions, and a home exercise program
  • Are able to walk for at least 50 metres with or without a walker or cane
