Rapid Access to Consultative Expertise

The Rapid Access to Consultative Expertise (RACE) is a novel strategy used to improve patient care. It is a shared advice phone line connecting family physicians and specialists across British Columbia.

The RACE program is accessible through a mobile app (RACEapp+), web browser, or by calling 604-696-2131. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.

RACE Provides:

  • An opportunity to speak directly with Specialists
  • Timely guidance and advice
  • Assistance with the plan of care
  • Learning opportunities
  • Enhanced ability to manage the patient in your office
  • Calls returned within 2 hours and commonly within 1 hour
  • CME credit through “Linking Learning to Practice”

RACE Does Not Provide:

  • Appointment booking
  • Arranging transfer
  • Arranging for labratory or diagnostic investigations
  • Informing the referring physician of results of diagnostic investigations
  • Arranging a hospital bed
